Green Tea on the Rocks with Citrus

Green Tea on the Rocks with Citrus

Sachiko Murata |

It seems the heat waves are around the world this summer, so we need to have nice cold drinks to treat ourselves.

Here is a delicious summer drink with a lovely appearance. It will definitely make you refreshed and lift your spirits!!

An Easy and Delicious Steeping Method

Fill your glass with ice cubes and pour hot tea on it.

This is a simple way, but it is a great way to enjoy your green tea cold.  By cooling the steeped tea quickly, the tea keeps its taste and preserve its flavor. You can make a delicious iced green tea by just using a few more tea leaves than usual, and then steeping as normal.

Green Tea Type

You can use any type of green tea you have already in your cupboard. Fukamushicha, deep-steamed green tea, is a really good option.

Fukamushicha is made by steaming the leaves longer than usual, and as a result, the color of the tea becomes deeper-green with a rich flavor.

The clean and smooth taste goes well with iced tea, and the color makes it look nice, too!

Green tea on the Rocks with Citrus RECIPE

Ingredients

(for 1 serving)

  • 8g-10g (2 tbsp) green tea leaves
  • 200ml water
  • a few slices of citrus  * Sudachi, a Japanese type of citrus, was used for the photos, but you could use lime or lemon, as you wish.
  • ice cubes
  • syrup (agave syrup or honey) , to taste
  • thyme for garnishing, to taste

Instructions

  1. Pour 200ml of hot water (60C/140F-80C/176F) into a teapot and wait for 1 minute. As for the water temperature, follow the instructions of your tea, or steep at 60C/140F if you want sweeter and milder tea, steep at 80C/176F if you want sharper and more astringent tea.
  2. Fill a glass with ice cubes and add slices of citrus, then pour on the tea gently.
  3. Put a thyme on top for garnishing, and add syrup to taste.

Relax with your refreshing drink!
