About the artist, NAKAMURA Kaoli

Kaoli Nakamura was born in 1981 in Chiba Prefecture, Japan. She studied ceramics at Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts, majoring in Ceramic Arts, and graduated in 2005. After graduation, she worked as a part-time assistant at the university and was involved in planning and running"neutral space [cotef]" at the Takasago-den of Maejima Art Center in Naha. with four other women.

After marriage and having a child, she moved back to Chiba for a few years. In 2009, she decided to restart her career as a ceramic artist, and in 2011 she returned to Okinawa. She taught at Avurn Pottery & Ceramic Art School, and at the same time produced her works under atelier [petit papillon] and in 2013, she became independent in Naha. In 2017, she moved her studio to Chiba, and she currently works in Kita-Senju, Tokyo.

Kaoli enjoys creating beautiful objects and draws inspiration from her surroundings. She lives with her French husband, two daughters, a black cat, and a bicolor cat.
